I don’t normally make posts about hotels that I stay at, but this one is a bit special to me. If you remember from my Total Solar Eclipse in Dallas post, I’m a fan of plane spotting. So whilst I was bummed to hear that the best flights I could find to Japan would require me to spend a night in Vancouver during the cold and rainy season, I switched my perspective when I learned about the Fairmont Vancouver Airport Hotel. It would allow me to stay in the airport and be able to watch planes from the comfort of my hotel bed!

It didn’t come cheap. In fact, it was far more than I’ve ever paid for a night at a hotel before as I’m someone who toes the line of a budget traveler. But in this case, the hotel provided a unique experience and additional convenience. On top of the views, the security gate to board my flight the following day was only a few minutes walk away.
When I woke up at 3am unable to sleep again, I did another thing I normally never do: order room service! It seemed pricey, but also yummy and very filling. Since I wasn’t able to enjoy live music at the bar earlier on in the night due to how packed it was, I considered this expense as just another part of the experience.

I welcomed the stay at the Fairmont, especially because it was dark, cold, and rainy for my entire stopover in Vancouver. Plus, with it being winter the thing I most wanted to do — the ropeway — closed earlier than I would be able to make it after my flight landed.

I’ve been trying to work on my money mindset. Especially since I’m not living in a city that’s exactly a hub for international travel. This unfortunately means that doing the thing I love the most, travel, ends up costing much more and being more laborious.

Here’s to looking on the bright side.
Safe travels ❤
